equima was founded by Alan Fryett who has worked in the mobile computing and printing arenas for a number of years, but previously worked in the fields of remote environmental monitoring, satellite communications and military electronics. Using his understanding of different technologies and how they interact, Alan designed and developed a simple and reliable 'cordless' connection between hand-held computers and portable printers several years before "Bluetooth" and 'Wireless LAN' became viable technologies for such applications. Alan also designed a printer driver for mobile computers that inherently works with virtually any printer and can be configured simply by scanning two barcodes. By mid-2005, over 30,000 copies of this driver had been installed around the world. Previously, Alan had designed and developed the world's first commercially successful cordless laser barcode scanner, used by many DIY and home furnishing retail stores where the large products were difficult to scan with fixed or cabled scanners.
equima also employs a number of software developers and network specialists with considerable experience of mobile computing applications and wireless networks.
